Community Awards
About the Community Awards
The Police Authority launched a community awards scheme earlier this year as the Authority's Members were been impressed and amazed by the heroic and selfless acts which take place in our communities. They were keen to acknowledge individuals and groups who have had a positive impact on community safety and public assurance across County Durham and Darlington.
Nominations were received for individuals and groups across the force area; in a recent statement to the press, Mr Peter Thompson, Chair of Durham Police Authority said:
“The Community Awards were launched so that ordinary members of the public who go above and beyond what is expected of them, could be recognised and thanked for the work that they do within their communities. I am delighted with the tremendous response we have had, which also demonstrates the public appetite for rewarding community heroes”.
There were 6 nomination categories to choose from: Caring, Serving, Volunteering, Achieving, Courageous and Dedicated with up to 5 winners for each category. The winning individuals and groups were presented with their awards at a ceremony held at the Ramside Hall Hotel in Durham on the evening of Thursday 1 December 2011.
