Intergeneraltional Event October 09

On 30 October 2009 Durham Police Authority, in partnership with Durham Constabulary, Growing Old Living in Darlington, RSVP, the LCJB Youth Independent Advisory Group and the EDDY project, held our Intergenerational event at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington. The aim was to bring older people and young people together to share experiences and address some of their collective concerns.

The partnership group felt that there are a number of mutual areas of concern for both age groups, particularly around fear of crime (in particular, door-step crime) and develop some proactive approaches to address those concerns.

We were delighted to have almost 80 attendees; with a good mix of young and older people the event was a great opportunity for people to learn new skills. Participants had the chance to play a variety of traditional games, modern activities using a Wii console with a large screen, craft making activities, dance mats and even had the opportunity to learn to play the spoons with Bert Draycott, the International Spoon Playing Champion.
