Police Performance

Durham Police Authority strives to continually improve the service provided by Durham Constabulary by carefully monitoring its performance in terms of both efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Key policing objectives are set for the Constabulary by both the Police Authority (following consultation with the residents of County Durham and Darlington) and the Home Secretary. The Authority sets targets for these objectives as part of the Policing Plan and it monitors the Constabulary's progress towards these targets throughout the course of the year through the Effective Policing Delivery Committee.

The Policing Plan also sets out how the Authority intends to secure 'best-value' and continuous improvement in policing for the people of County Durham and Darlington. Ultimately Durham Constabulary's performance is reported in the Annual Report which looks back over their performance and achievements during the year and also highlights what the priorities are for the forthcoming year.
