Keys to the Past

Shitlington (Wark)

This is the site of the deserted medieval village of Shitlington. The village was first recorded here in 1279. However, there was no evidence for a village here in the 17th century beyond a few scattered settlements. The only remains to be seen are the earthwork traces of enclosure banks and ridge and furrow.

Reference number: N7996
Historical period: Medieval (1066 to 1540)
Post-medieval (1540 to 1900)
